From the pictures and headlines beamed out by the MSM, you’d think the whole of Beirut was being bombed and thousands of civilians were having their homes destroyed as some kind of psychotic revenge on behalf of Israel.
However, just one map can sweep that myth aside. It is (so far) one neighbourhood, Dahiye, Hezbollah’s command centre, being bombed by the Israelis. And the one crucial piece of the puzzle that is conveniently excised from the story is that the Israelis leafleted the area before bombing to tell civilians to move out of the area - hardly an intention to commit mass-murder of civilians. Just compare that one Israeli action to Hezbollah, who don’t warn any Israeli civilians before firing rockets into built-up urban areas.
This hasn’t stopped British politicians and crackpot Leftist extremists nazifying Israel by comparing the bombing of this one deserted neighbourhood in Beirut to the Nazi raising of the Warsaw Ghetto. Well, if - like the MSM - you love a numbers game, let’s compare!
By May 24, 1943 the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto saw the capture of 56,065 Jewish civilians of which 7,000 Jews were intentionally murdered in the Warsaw Ghetto, 6,929 were murdered at Treblinka II death camp and the rest were transported to concentration camps such as Auschwitz - and we know what happened there. And this doesn’t take into account all the Jewish civilians who died of starvation and disease in the Warsaw Ghetto prior to its Nazi liquidation.
That’s what real genocide looks like and any false equivalence only serves to devalue the meaning of the word so that real victims no longer have a legal term to defend them.
Did the Nazis drop leaflets telling Warsaw Ghetto civilians to “clear the area” or did they walk into that Ghetto with the same intention that they walked into every Jewish community throughout Nazi-occupied Europe: to wipe-out the entire Jewish people? The Nazis didn’t call it Die Judenvernichtung (the Extermination of the Jews) for nothing.
On comparing the Nazi raising of the Warsaw Ghetto to Israel’s leafleting pre-warning Dahiye civilians and giving them time to clear the area, we can draw two conclusions: (1) murder of civilians is hardly Israel’s intention, and (2) non-intentional deaths - as tragic as they are - are not morally equivalent to intentional genocide.
And I haven’t even mentioned the “peacekeeper” UN colluding with Hezbollah (see also here and here) or the UN humanitarian chief Jan Egeland “blasting” Hezbollah’s well-known tactic of cowardly hiding among civilians and using them as human shields.
Whoah! Not even the Nazis did that.
UPDATE: Britain’s Telegraph newspaper is the latest to unleash its version of false moral equivalence with a cartoon that you can view at LGF.
