“It’s been one of the great revelations of the 21st century that, y’know, Orwell thought that you needed a Big Brother in order to be brainwashed, but in fact, people will brainwash themselves. They will go just to the sites that tell them the things they want to hear. It’s true all around.” - Prof. Richard Landes, SecondDraft.org
The future of journalism is here and in our hands…
We’re all too familiar with the deadline-profit-margin Politik-caste broadcasts that make up 24/7 news agencies and commercially-editorialised printing presses. Some consumers of such ‘fast news’ are even unaware that often the real story only comes out after the papers have gone to print and the camera crews have gone home.
As many a journalism manual will tell you, there is often more news in old news than in breaking news. For this reason one site that should be on your bookmark list, which aims to bring history and journalism together, is Richard Landes’ SecondDraft.org
SecondDraft.org states that: “What we present you here is raw material, and we invite you to help us analyze it. ”
Well that seems like a tall order so it’ll be interesting to see how they fulfil it. The point is that I’m tired of opinionated journalists; I just want the facts so I can make up my own mind. Making news rushes available for download is a useful way to help me do that.
